WIP Wednesday

Brr we've started getting frosts at night now, Winter is definitely getting closer! I guess it's a good time of year to be a knitter or crocheter. Lots of warm scarves and hats and snuggling under blankets, what could be better lol.

I've been working on a scarf for my Dad. I wasn't happy with the knitted version I posted about on Monday so I'm now crocheting him one.

Doesn't really look like I've done much since Monday does it. How about if I told you it's sock yarn, a 3.0mm hook and I'm crocheting it along it's long length rather than the short...

Is that slightly more impressive?

Ok, it's not really, I'm not the fastest crocheter in the world and I've been a bit busy these past few days. I'll have to try harder lol.

A couple of weekends ago I started making this pattern for a Christmas tree. I've almost finished it really but I messed up the number of branches in one section so frogged it back a bit and put it on a shelf in time out. I've almost forgiven it so hopefully I'll get it finished off soon ;-)

I'm looking forward to decorating it :-)

I'm trying to finish off some long running WIP's and I've promised myself that when I've finished off a colourwork cardigan which I cast on AGES ago I'll let myself cast on a pair of socks in this yummy yarn. Hopefully it will motivate me!

What do you do when you've lost motivation for a project? Do you force yourself to work on it or just put it in time out for a bit until you're in the mood again?

I'm linking in with Tami, Ginny and Nicole this week so hop over to their blogs for more links to what other crafters have been up to this week :-)

  1. Yes. Yummy sock yarn! Reminds me of the two Modeling Magic clays my oldest combined for her smiley face.
Sock yarn? Skinny hook? Yes, I think impressive. Made me , "Whoa." I think the effect it has is so much better.
Hmmm...when I lose mojo? I think I just don't craft and do other things, such as work on another WIP or read my eyeballs out or cook gourmet.

    1. It's lovely sock yarn isn't it, I'm thinking of doing some plain vanilla socks but tempted to maybe have a simple cable or something

  2. Oh, that is yummy yarn! Wow, actually that is impressive how much you've done on the scarf! I have a love/hate relationship with those types of projects--I really like to see instant progress. :/ The tree is going to be so cute, I can tell already! :-)

    1. Thanks :-) Yeah it's definitely not a scarf for instant progress although it is nice knowing that it's already long enough and I can just keep hooking until I run out of yarn or inclination lol

  3. I like the scarf so far and that had to feel like the longest crochet chain in the world. The Christmas tree is adorable and sock yarn looks soft. Nice fall colors.

    1. It wasn't the chain as such, it was the first row being worked in the chain, urgh it took forever!

  4. I like to stick to DK and thicker! It has to be something really special for me to use anything finer.

I have lots of projects in bags waiting to be finished. I have a sort through them every now and again. Some stuff gets chucked out (like when I started a cardigan for one of the kids and it would have been too small for either of them). Sometimes I'll force myself to finish one thing from the bag(s) and then start a new big project. Sometimes they've been put to one side because I wanted a bigger piece of fabric or something and I'll start them as soon as I get it.

    1. lol I don't blame you! To be fair it's not often my Dad asks for me to make something for him and the texture of the scarf is gorgeous so it will be worth it in the end. At least it's fairly mindless.

I'm increasingly feeling that I should have more project bags. Or I guess I could stop casting on new projects...!

  5. That tree is amazing! Hope you get it finished soon. Slow going projects are tedious especially when you have a deadline to meet, when I don't they usually end up hibernating until I have nothing else on the needles!

    1. I work better with deadlines too, I'm quite good at procrastinating when I want to lol.

  6. Great colour your using for a scarf, I love knitting/crocheting on dark, cold winter evenings. I've got a few WIP's but I do try and finish before starting a new one. If I've really lost my mojo for a certain project, I do out it away or just frog it. I love the gorgeous sock yarn, I look forward to seeing you working on them. Deb x

  8. I'm a slow crocheter too! Been working on a blanket since May and not yet halfway. That orange-yellow combo yarn looks sooo squishy and yummy, I'd be motivated for sure! Good luck!

    1. I've got a blanket I'm working on too, I think I've just made half the squares but not sewn in the ends or joined them together yet :-S

  9. That scarf is coming along nicely. I find that vertical scarves suddenly seem to speed up as soon as they have acquired a bit of width. I motivate myself by only having 2 projects on the go. If I want to start something new, I have to finish something first. That works for me.

    1. Interesting, I'd been thinking the same thing too. I think limiting the number of projects on the go is a good idea. Normally I just have 3 but I've got a bit out of control recently :-S

  10. If the UFO's in my closet screaming at me to be knit are any indication, I tend to be an ignorer of projects that bother me... They will get done some time. The scarf is beautiful... and good luck with the tree... It's tres cute!

  11. I love crocheting and decorating Christmas trees. I think I will have to make a couple for next year for my adult children. I love the pattern you have.

  12. That scarf is looking great! I'm pretty bad about just letting projects hibernate until I feel like dealing with them. I don't have too much discipline, I guess!

  13. That tree is going to be so cute. Looking forward to seeing it decorated.

  14. I like the colour of your scarf. When I get unmotivated I try to push through it to the end, because the only other choice I have is to put the project in hibernation which is the same as throwing it into file 13!
I love your tree, so original :)
