FO - Alec XL for Mr Soaring Sheep

I'm so excited to share this jumper with you today. I cast it on just before Christmas and made really fast progress. Unfortunately my funny shaped husband meant that although the chest measurement was fine, the arms and body were a bit too big. Rather than completely frog it I just frogged back to the raglan increases and separated the shoulders a bit earlier. It was a bit of a pain to have to frog back so much work but it was definitely worth it :-)

I used Cascade 220 in Red Wine Heathers to knit this jumper. It's a gorgeous shade of red, I rather fancy making myself something using it too although I don't think I really want to go for the "his and hers" matching jumpers look lol

Poor Mr Soaring Sheep felt a bit awkward posing so he started being silly ;-) I laughed at him

I love this stitch pattern. It's got a really nice texture but is very simple to knit

The pattern is Alec XL and is by Sarah Ronchetti. There is also a children's version which I've knitted previously. The child version is called Alec.

I'm linking in with Tami, Linda and Andrea for the various Friday posts. Hop over to their blogs for links to more projects :-)

  1. I love this garment. It looks like a perfect "man" hand-knit. I might even persuade my other half that he might wear this one. He still has not wanted a hand-knit from me and I've been knitting 6 years and we've been together 13! I want to knit something for him. I must show him this blog post.

    1. Aw thank you :) It's a fairly fast knit too providing you don't mess up and make the wrong size like I did ;-) The stitch pattern is quick and the rest is just stockinette with some shaping

  2. It is gorgeous! I like the simple, textural stitch pattern. Just enough for a guy's sweater without being too much. I have a skein of that color in my stash, was thinking of doing a colorwork capelet with it and 4 other glorious shades. Hmmm, may have to revisit that idea.

  4. WOW! what a brilliant end result!!! Its been really fun and interesting following the progress of this jumper - and really feeling for you when you had to take so much of it back - but it looks fantastic on your hubby and he looks very proud to be wearing it!

  8. It turned out great! It is so hard to frog, but I find it's always worth having it just the way you want it instead of making do. And you got a perfect custom fit! I've only attempted vests for my husband as the addition of sleeves seems like so much work ;)

    1. Yes I agree. I've never regretted frogging something but I have regretted not doing it. I don't mind sleeve knitting, after doing the body it feels like they whizz past, especially if you have something to watch on tv at the same time lol
