Going through my photos I was surprised to find that this is the only photo I got of the cable cars! We had a ride in them after lunch to take us up to the caverns...
This is what we saw when we arrived at the top. People used to walk or ride up, I was very glad to be able to take the modern option ;-)
Where do they learn these poses??
There are two caverns to explore, the biggest and busy-ist is the Masson cavern
It was interesting learning about the different types of rock mined here and what they were used for.
The colour changing lights really highlighted the different shapes in the rocks.
These markings were from the people who first started mining here. They helpfully dated it too, 1705.
After walking back up a lot of steps you come out of the cavern to this amazing view
Despite the weather being a bit grim at times you could see such a long way, well worth the effort of all those steps lol
We also visited the second Rutland Cavern where my littlest girl put on her best adorable face and made friends with the tour guide. By the end of the tour the guide was carrying her around and cuddling her!
Unfortunately the little charmer has since come down with chicken pox so is feeling very itchy and sorry for herself. She'll be staying home with me next week in the hopes she doesn't spread it to too many of her friends at pre-school. I expect it's probably too late to worry about that now :-S
